1. How do I log in?

Once your account is open, we'll e-mail you a welcome letter with your temporary login password and trading access code.

A few days later, you'll receive a ScotiaCard in the mail (if you don't already have one). Detailed instructions on how to get started will be included.

  • Visit Scotia OnLine or this Web site.
  • Click on the Log In button.
  • Enter your 16-digit ScotiaCard number.
  • Enter your login password (you'll be given a temporary password which you'll be asked to change the first time you log in).
  • When you log in, you will need to agree to the online terms and conditions and the exchange agreement. Once that is completed, you're ready to go.

2. How do I use the Automated Telephone Service?

Once your account is open, we'll email you a welcome letter with your temporary login password and trading access code.

A few days later, you'll receive a ScotiaCard in the mail (if you don't already have one). Detailed instructions on how to get started will be included.

  • Have your ScotiaCard handy.
  • Call 1 800 830-3838.
  • Follow the voice prompts.
  • Your telephone password can be the same as your Internet trading access code.
  • First-time callers will be asked to set up a password.

3. How do I get technical support?

  • Have your ScotiaCard and password handy.
  • Call 1 800 830-3838 and select option 3.
  • A representative will help you.

Technical support for log-ins, password resets and browser or navigation questions is available from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. EST, 7 days a week.


4. How different is ScotiaMcLeod i:Partner from other services on the market?

ScotiaMcLeod is a market leader in this type of offering. It is a unique service that combines expert advice and ongoing consultation with online information, trading and banking services.



5. What if I'm already a ScotiaMcLeod customer?

Discuss the i:Partner solution with your advisor. He or she can arrange to set up an account for you.



6. Can I reduce my fees by enrolling other family members?

Yes, the accounts of up to five family members from the same household can be linked together for fee-sharing purposes. The fee is split among the accounts on a pro-rated basis by percentage of total asset value and asset class. A minimum of $75,000 in investable assets is required for the principal account.



7. What are the minimum PC requirements for investing with ScotiaMcLeod i:Partner?

8. How do I get my Internet and phone passwords?

Your temporary login password and trading access code will be e-mailed to you. You will be prompted to change both on initial log in.



9. What banking can I do with this account?

You can transfer money between your i:Partner and Scotiabank accounts and pay bills from the cash portion of your i:Partner account.



10. Can I see my account statements online?

Yes. You'll receive an e-mail advising you that your statement is ready for viewing and printing.



11. What help does the Call Centre provide?

The Call Centre (1 800 830-3838) answers technical questions about setting up and operating your account.



12. Which securities can I trade through my i:Partner account?

You can trade virtually any security through your account. The only restriction is that fixed income products, options, some special securities and short sales can only be traded through your advisor, not online or by telephone.



13. Can I open a RSP account?

Yes, you can open RSP and locked-in RSP accounts, as well as non-registered accounts, Registered Education Savings Plans (RESP), Registered Retirement Income Funds (RRIF) and corporate accounts through ScotiaMcLeod i:Partner. Cash and margin accounts are also available. The Program minimum of $75,000 per Household will apply.



14. How soon can I start trading after I open my account?

Once your account is open, you can trade immediately through your ScotiaMcLeod advisor. Your advisor can also set up your account so that you can begin trading online the next day.



15. How quickly will my online trade orders be processed?

As soon as you have submitted your trade, processing begins. If you have made any input errors, the screen will highlight the problem fields. Once all corrections have been made and you've received an Internet Reference Number, your order is reviewed and submitted to the appropriate stock exchange. You can always check the status of your order to find out exactly where it stands.



16. What if I notice a mistake once I've placed an order?

You can view the order status and cancel or edit the order right up until the time it is filled. As well, we'll review your order against the investment objectives that you and your advisor have established beforehand. If your order appears to be inappropriate, it will be rejected before it is executed.



17. Can I transfer my existing holdings to an i:Partner account?

Yes, your advisor can do this for you if you have a minimum of $75,000 in your account (the program minimum).
