Scotiabank named among Canada’s 50 best employers
For the fifth year in a row, we were named in The Globe and Mail Report on Business Magazine list of Canada’s 50 Best Employers. In 2009, Scotiabank placed 20th on the list and was the highest placed bank. The annual 50 Best Employers list is one of the most prestigious employer recognition awards in Canada, and is based on a survey of more than 100,000 employees in organizations across the country by Hewitt Associates, a global human resources firm.
Scotiabank ranks among leading training companies
Scotiabank was recognized as a leading training company, as well as the top Canadian bank, in Training magazine’s 2008 Training Top 125, which recognizes exceptional learning and development programs around the world. This is the sixth consecutive year Scotiabank has appeared on the list.
Scotiabank named top employer in Central America and Caribbean
In April 2008, Scotiabank was named one of the 2008 Best Places to Work for in Central America and Caribbean by the Great Place to Work Institute®. Based primarily on employees’ responses to the Institute’s annual survey to measure levels of trust, pride and camaraderie, employees in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador and Costa Rica, Scotiabank ranked among the top 20 places to work in the region. In recent years, Scotiabank has been repeatedly recognized as a global employer of choice, earning best employer awards in countries such as Canada, Jamaica and Mexico.
An employer of choice in Trinidad & Tobago
Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago was honoured with the Champion Employer of the Year award (large employers category) in 2008 from the Employers’ Consultative Association. Scotiabank earned first-place in the large employers category, among 25 companies that were scrutinized by the research firm Quality Consultants Limited, in six categories: management systems, industrial relations, occupational safety and health, human resource management, corporate social responsibility and employment creation. The award spotlights employers that strive for excellence in their business dealings, employment standards and community support.
Scotiabank excels in Top Companies rankings
Scotiabank Mexico earned the high-profile Top Companies rating as a result of a 2008 survey of workers in 407 international organizations. Scotiabank ranked 11th out of 94 companies that earned the Top Companies certification, based on criteria including productivity, service and organizational management. Achieving first place among Mexico’s six main financial firms, Scotiabank also won top 10 ratings in a number of special categories evaluated, such as working conditions, motivation and growth.
In addition, Scotiabank Mexico garnered a number of other awards during the year:
- They were recognized by the Great Place to Work Institute for the fifth year in a row, earning 11th place among 348 firms.
- They were presented with the Award for Employees’ Quality of Life by the Mexican Centre for Philanthropy (CEMEFI), winning recognition among organizations across Latin America for opening an inclusive, accessible branch, the innovative 222 Reforma location in Mexico City. The Bank has also formed partnerships with organizations such as Libre Acceso, Manpower and CONFE Foundations to locate job candidates with disabilities.
- As part of a gender equity certification process developed by the National Institute of Women, Scotiabank Mexico attained one of the highest compliance levels in the history of the program in Mexico, achieving a 98 per cent compliance rating.
