Mark Brodkin

Managing Director and Group Head Toronto Office

As Managing Director and Head of Roynat Equity Partners, Mark is responsible for leading all aspects of the investment process, including sourcing, transaction execution and portfolio oversight. His mandate is to focus on opportunities across Canada and ensure that both Roynat Equity Partners’ and its portfolio companies’ goals are met.

Mark has extensive experience with investments and operations in small and medium sized businesses. Prior to joining Roynat, he was the head of Mergers and Acquisitions at Lynx Equity, a Toronto-based diversified private equity firm focused on acquiring small and medium-sized businesses. At Lynx, Mark was responsible for sourcing and executing new acquisitions, monitoring and overseeing existing portfolio companies, and developing the firm’s strategic direction. During his tenure at Lynx, the portfolio grew to 45 operating businesses with revenue in excess of $400M CAD.

Prior to working at Lynx, Mark was the CEO and founder of OutdoorPartnerMedia which grew to be a publicly-traded company with a market capitalization of $60 million and displays in major cities in the United States. Prior to founding OutdoorPartner, Mark worked as an investment banking professional at Salomon Smith Barney in New York, and a corporate lawyer at Heenan Blaikie in Toronto.

Mark received an LL.B/MBA from the University of Toronto, where he won the Hewlett Packard Award for top performance in Finance. He also graduated with honours from the University of Western Ontario with a B.A. in social science and statistics.

Matt Flynn

Managing Director

Matt is engaged in a wide variety of investing activities including originating, evaluating, executing, negotiating, and managing investments and prospective transactions. With over 20 years’ experience as a value-added financial partner to mid-market businesses across Canada, he plays a key role in working collaboratively with management teams in the areas of strategy, governance, due diligence, M&A, and raising capital. As Managing Director, Western Canada, Matt also leads the Western team of investment professionals at Roynat Equity Partners.

Matt holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Alberta and a Degree in International Business from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

Matt joined the Calgary office in 2007.

Catherine Parent

Catherine is focused on helping mid-market companies in Eastern Canada expand, complete acquisitions, buyouts or recapitalizations using subordinated debt, mezzanine financing and private equity investments.

Her responsibilities go from sourcing new opportunities, underwriting them and managing Roynat Equity Partners’ Eastern Canada portfolio.

With over 15 years of experience with Roynat Equity Partners, Catherine has held director positions on Boards for various retail, food manufacturing and distribution companies.

Tobin Hayward

Tobin has been with Roynat Equity Partners since 2015 where he leads deal origination, negotiation and execution efforts on new opportunities, and actively manages current investments. He works closely with portfolio companies to drive strategy and value creation activities. Tobin is currently a director of All-Fab, The BID Group, and Outdoor Adventure Group, and previously served on the Boards of Digitex Canada Inc., F12.net, Hunterwood Technologies Ltd., S3 Group, and Recovery Acres (Calgary) Society.

Prior to joining Roynat Equity Partners, Tobin was a Director at an international, mid-size accounting firm, where he provided Investment Banking, Transaction Advisory and Valuation services for over ten years.

Tobin earned a B. Comm. (Honours) from the University of Manitoba, and holds CA, CPA, CBV and CFE designations.

Tobin joined the Calgary office in 2015.

Jamie Earle

Managing Director

Jamie joined the Roynat Equity Partners, Toronto office in 2018 and is responsible for leading origination, transaction negotiation, execution and management of portfolio investments.

Prior to Roynat Equity Partners, Jamie held progressively senior roles in finance with an emphasis on private equity, focused on the mid-market. He has also held a leadership role in a privately held health care company, providing strategic and operational leadership to drive growth in the business.

Cherina Burgher

Associate Director

Cherina is responsible for all aspects of investment activities in Quebec and the Atlantic provinces, including evaluating, underwriting and executing transactions, monitoring investments, as well as working closely with portfolio companies.

She joined Roynat Capital in 2013 as part of the lending group in Montreal, occupying ever more senior roles on that team.

Cherina holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accountancy from the John Molson School of Business and CPA, CMA designation.

She joined the Montreal office in 2016.

Jean-François Dion

Jean-François’ role in the Montreal team involves evaluating, structuring & underwriting investments, as well as monitoring and supporting Roynat’s existing investments. Part of the Roynat/Scotiabank family since 2015, he has already gained significant experience working alongside mid-market businesses and conducting in depth financial analysis and due diligence.

Prior to his current role, Jean-François was a senior analyst in the Scotiabank National Accounts team, underwriting applications for customized credit and cash management solutions ranging up to $100 million. Prior to that, he was an analyst for Roynat Capital, providing creative & unique long term financing solutions to mid-market companies.

Jean-François holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (Major in Finance with distinction) from Laval University and obtained his CFA charter in 2018.

Jean-François joined the Montreal office in 2018.

Prior to joining Roynat Equity Partners in Toronto, Jordyn was with the Calgary Roynat Equity Partners team. Prior to that, she was with the Roynat Capital lending team.

Jordyn earned her Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary.

Alex Beliaev

Alex leads Roynat’s Fund of Funds practice and is responsible for executing and managing venture capital and private equity fund commitments.

Prior to joining Roynat Equity Partners in 2022, Alex was at Export Development Canada where he managed fund investments across various sectors and geographies. Previously Alex also worked at Sustainable Development Technology Canada where he was responsible for early stage cleantech investments.

Alex holds an MBA from the John Molson School of Business and a B.Eng.in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University. Alex is also a graduate of the Institutional Limited Partners Association executive program.

Mathias Morin-Demers

Mathias is involved in all aspects of the investment process, including evaluating new opportunities, conducting due diligence, underwriting and executing transactions, as well as monitoring and supporting Roynat’s existing investments.

Prior to joining Roynat Equity Partners, Mathias was a Fall and Winter Analyst at PSP Investments in their private equity group, mainly focusing on U.S. large cap buyouts. He also completed two internships at Wells Fargo in Commercial Banking.

Mathias holds a Master’s degree in Finance and a B.B.A with a major in Finance from the University of Sherbrooke. He is also enrolled in the CFA Program and has successfully completed the Level I & II.

Mathias joined the Montreal office in 2023.

Vina Vu

Vina is involved with all aspects of the Funds portfolio management including, risk measurement, performance analytics, and new investment portfolio fit. She directly supports the Fund of Funds operations, and is responsible for a wide array of reporting activities across the Roynat Equity Partners portfolio.

Prior to joining Roynat Equity Partners in 2024, Vina worked at Investissement Quebec and Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec in their private equity team. Vina holds a B.B.A with a major in Finance from HEC Montreal.

Khaoula Karoui

Khaoula is directly supporting the Fund of Funds operations, assisting in portfolio management, financial modeling and performing research and analysis.

She is responsible of preparation of reports for internal purposes, compliance and regulators.

Prior to joining Roynat Equity Partners team , Khaoula was with Roynat Field Accounting team and mainly supporting the REP portfolio. Khaoula earned her Bachelor degree in Finance from Higher Institute of Management.

Clarke Morris

Clarke earned his Bachelor of Management from the University of British Columbia, and holds the CPA designation. He is also enrolled in the CBV Program and has successfully completed Levels 1 - 4.

Emma Patriquin

Emma participates in all aspects of the investment process, including the origination, execution, and management of private equity investments.

Prior to joining Roynat Equity Partners, Emma was involved in sourcing and evaluating new investment opportunities, as well as portfolio management at alphi Capital. Prior to that, she worked at CIBC on the Mid-Market Investment Banking team and completed a summer internship at Clarivest Group. She began her career at Dimensional Fund Advisors.

Emma earned her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics with a specialization in Finance from Wilfrid Laurier University, and her Master of Business Administration from the University of Toronto. She also holds CFA and AFM designations.

Emma joined the Toronto office in 2024.

In this role, he has national responsibility for Roynat Distribution and Equity across our network of Canadian offices. Matt brings over 20 years’ experience of complex transaction experience and has a strong track record of managing people and delivering results.

Prior to joining Scotiabank, Matt held a series of increasingly progressive roles at KPMG LLP (Canada & Americas). In his most recent role, Matt was Head of Deal Advisory, Americas, and was responsible for the growth and development of KPMG’s Deal Advisory business in Central and South America, including leadership selection and development. At the same time, Matt was the Global Lead Partner for a major public pension plan relationship, managing more than 70 KPMG partners in 10 countries.

He holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, and is a Certified Professional Accountant.

He and his wife, Liz, have three sons.

For over a decade Mr. Rozin has been keenly focused on the Technology sector, working with some of Canada’s most successful innovators and investors. Over this time, Mr. Rozin has developed deep subject matter expertise to support the unique financial needs of Technology entrepreneurs, spanning all life stages and sectors, including Clean Technology. 

Mr. Rozin has over 20 years of experience in Financial Services with roles across Strategy, Finance and Commercial banking and holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Management (University of Toronto) and earned a BA in Economics from Concordia University in Montreal.

Mark Saidi

Vice-President, Risk Management

Mark Saidi joined Roynat Capital as Vice President, Risk Management in May 2018. He is responsible for contributing to the quality growth of Roynat's Technology & Innovation Banking, Term Debt, Subordinated Debt, Mezzanine and Equity investment portfolios by overseeing all components of credit and risk management.

Mark has over 15 years’ experience in the commercial mid-market space as an account manager as well as leading distribution teams, credit risk management and special loans teams across Canada.

Prior to joining to Roynat Capital, Mark held progressively senior roles at a leading Canadian Financial institution. In his most recent role, Mark was responsible for mid-market credit risk management and special loans for the Prairie Region. Before becoming a Banker, Mark was a not for profit consultant in Ontario leading major gift and capital campaigns for various hospitals and universities.

Mark holds an MBA in specializing Finance from the Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba. He is an active member of the community previously serving on boards for industry associations and for a hospital.

He and his wife Julia reside in Calgary with their three children and enjoys spending outdoor time with them in the Rockies.

Roynat Equity Partners

As Managing Director and Head of Roynat Equity Partners, Mark is responsible for leading all aspects of the investment process, including sourcing, transaction execution and portfolio oversight. His mandate is to focus on opportunities across Canada and ensure that both Roynat Equity Partners’ and its portfolio companies’ goals are met.

Mark has extensive experience with investments and operations in small and medium sized businesses. Prior to joining Roynat, he was the head of Mergers and Acquisitions at Lynx Equity, a Toronto-based diversified private equity firm focused on acquiring small and medium-sized businesses. At Lynx, Mark was responsible for sourcing and executing new acquisitions, monitoring and overseeing existing portfolio companies, and developing the firm’s strategic direction. During his tenure at Lynx, the portfolio grew to 45 operating businesses with revenue in excess of $400M CAD.

Prior to working at Lynx, Mark was the CEO and founder of OutdoorPartnerMedia which grew to be a publicly-traded company with a market capitalization of $60 million and displays in major cities in the United States. Prior to founding OutdoorPartner, Mark worked as an investment banking professional at Salomon Smith Barney in New York, and a corporate lawyer at Heenan Blaikie in Toronto.

Mark received an LL.B/MBA from the University of Toronto, where he won the Hewlett Packard Award for top performance in Finance. He also graduated with honours from the University of Western Ontario with a B.A. in social science and statistics.
