Enrolling for direct deposit will help ensure your payments are delivered more quickly, without the delays that can be experienced through traditional mail delivery. 

To be eligible to enrol for CERB or CESB direct deposit with the Canada Revenue Agency you must have filed at least one income tax return in the past. 

If you have never filed a Canadian tax return, you must first call 1-800-959-8281 to register your Social Insurance Number with the CRA. You will not be able to apply for CERB/CESB or set up direct deposit until you call and register your Social Insurance Number.

No, this enrolment for direct deposit is only for choosing your method of receiving your benefit payment.

The Canada Emergency Response Benefit enrollment is accessible through the Government of Canada website.

The Canada Emergency Student Benefit enrollment is accessible through Government of Canada website.

The Government of Canada recommends signing up through your bank as the easiest way.

To be eligible to enrol for CERB or CESB direct deposit with the Canada Revenue Agency you must have filed at least one income tax return in the past.

To begin receiving payments directly into your Scotiabank account, you can sign up on the Scotia mobile banking app or through Scotia online banking.

During the sign up process with Scotiabank, we’ll auto-populate your account number and, in cases where we have it on file, your Social Insurance Number (SIN). In most cases, the only step you need to take is consenting to share your information with the Canada Revenue Agency. If we do not have your SIN, you can add that during the enrolment process and we will send it to the CRA without updating it in your Scotiabank profile.

If you have multiple eligible accounts on file, you will be able to select the account you would like the payment to be deposited into.

If we do not have your SIN and you do not wish to provide it through this process, you can sign up for direct deposits directly through the Canada Revenue Agency website.

The Scotia mobile banking app or Scotia Online Banking are easy and convenient ways to sign up without having to visit a branch. We do offer sign up through your local branch, but recommend you enrol through our mobile banking app or Scotia OnLine Banking whenever possible. You are currently not able to enrol over the phone through our Contact Centre.

When signing up for direct deposits, your personal information will be auto-populated for you in your enrolment form. If we don’t have your Social Insurance Number (SIN) on file, you’ll first need to update your customer profile with your SIN through Scotia OnLine. After logging in, select Manage My Accounts, and then Profile. You can update your SIN on your Personal Profile page. Once that’s updated, you can sign up.

• Return to work earlier than expected, including being paid retroactively
• Applied for CERB but later realize you are not eligible
• Applied for and received the CERB from CRA and Service Canada for the same eligibility period
