The Board of Directors; Sean N. Albert, VP & District Head, Caribbean North; the entire Executive Team; and all of our dedicated employees are grateful to The Bahamas Red Cross Society for selecting Scotiabank (Bahamas) Limited as this year’s Corporate Donor Award recipient.
At Scotiabank, we are proud of our legacy of supporting the communities where we live and work. We have a long history of being relevant and responsive to the needs of the local community at the grassroots level. Each year, in The Bahamas, the Bank’s community donations and sponsorships exceed $300,000 while employees spend over 3,000 cumulative hours volunteering their time and energy to charitable causes.
We recognize the importance of partnering with community organizations like The Bahamas Red Cross Society and have supported their efforts since Scotiabank started operating in The Bahamas more than 60 years ago. We have made significant monetary donations; sponsored the annual Ball; hosted the raffle launch outside our Main Branch on Bay Street each year for decades; volunteered to sell tickets at the fair; and much more. The Society is to be commended as it provides invaluable services, not only in times of disaster, but on an ongoing basis through its social outreach programmes.
Scotiabank’s other community involvement in recent years includes, but is not limited to, a multi-year partnership agreement with the Royal Bahamas Police Force Summer Youth Camps; establishment of a Mission Educate TuneIn to Reading lab at Freeport Primary School; 100K scholarship donation to the College (now University) of The Bahamas; annual signature community fun day for kids on Grand Bahama, Abaco, Exuma, and Andros islands; sponsorship of Marathon Bahamas Race Weekend; hosting Regional HIV Testing Day each June, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and other community organizations like the Red Cross; parties for various disenfranchised youth including, Special Olympic athletes, abused and neglected children, among others; sponsorship of Junior Achievement elementary, company and innovation programs; Hands for Hunger food drives and Paradise Plates event; Grand Bahama Conchman Triathlon; Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year yearly scholarships; and donations to various nonprofits and community organizations like The Sir Victor Sassoon (Bahamas) Heart Foundation, Bahamas National Trust, Governor-General's Youth Award, Erin Gilmour School for the Blind, Bahamas AIDS Foundation, Cancer Society of The Bahamas, and many others.
At Scotiabank, we remain devoted to serving our customers with enthusiasm and pride and keeping the community at the heart of all we do. Congratulations on the 46th Annual Red Cross Ball. We look forward to future partnerships.
