Chris Manning

Executive Vice President, Canadian Commercial Banking

Chris Manning was appointed Executive Vice President, Canadian Commercial Banking on May 1, 2024. In this role, he is responsible for all facets of the business, including setting strategy and leading execution, focusing on key growth opportunities, and enhancing client relationships.

Chris joined Scotiabank’s Roynat Capital business in 2007 and since then he has held progressively senior roles across International Corporate & Commercial Banking, Canadian Commercial Banking, Global Risk Management, and Global Banking and Markets.

Most recently, as Executive Vice President of Global Transaction Banking, Chris was responsible for Scotiabank’s global payments vision and strategy, including oversight of wholesale deposits and treasury services, trade finance, correspondent banking and digital channels for business clients across markets.

Chris was a member of the Board of Junior Achievement Central Ontario, standing as Chair of the Board from 2020-2022. In 2023, Chris joined the Board of Governors for the organization. In 2022, Chris was recognized by Women in Capital Markets with a Champions of Change Award for his leadership in advancing equality in the Canadian finance industry and fostering a culture of inclusion throughout Scotiabank’s global footprint. He holds an MBA from Queen University’s Smith School of Business.

Miguel Barrieras

Senior Vice President, Commercial Distribution

Miguel was appointed Senior Vice President, Commercial Distribution at Scotiabank in December 2016. Miguel brings over 25 years of global experience in financial services and has a strong track record of managing sales and driving strong results.

Prior to joining Scotiabank, Miguel held progressively senior roles at HSBC as Senior Vice President and National Head of Business Banking in Canada, Executive Vice President and Head of Commercial Banking in France and Mexico, and Global Head of Strategy & Planning, Global Commercial Banking at HSBC’s headquarters in London.

Miguel holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and Economics Diploma from Laval University. He also earned the distinction of Gold Medalist and Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers’ Professional Banking Program.

Matt Tedford

Senior Vice President & Head, Roynat Capital

Matt is the Senior Vice President & Head of Roynat Capital. In this role, he is responsible for Roynat Distribution and Equity across our network of Canadian offices, as well as Technology and Innovation Banking and Private Equity Sponsor Coverage. He was appointed to this position in November 2018.

With over 20 years of experience in complex transactions, Matt has a proven track record of managing people and delivering results. Prior to joining Scotiabank, he held increasingly senior roles at KPMG LLP (Canada & Americas), where he managed more than 70 KPMG partners across ten countries.

Matt holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, and is a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA). He and his wife, Liz, have three sons.

Islay McGlynn

Senior Vice President, Canadian Business Banking

Islay is currently a Senior Vice President in Canadian Business Banking, responsible for the Healthcare & Professional Specialists team within Specialty Business Banking. In addition, Islay provides leadership and oversight of specific philanthropic commitments and corporate governance work, as well as the Bank’s Fine Arts & Corporate History programs. Previously, she held the role of SVP, Executive Support, Office of the CEO.

Islay began her career with Scotiabank in 1989 and has had progressively more senior positions within the Retail, Small Business, and Commercial Banking business lines along with roles in Global Risk Management, Human Resources and Operations.

Islay is the Chair of the Supervisory Board for Maduro & Curiel’s Bank based in Curaçao, a Director on the Toronto Rehab Foundation Board, and the Chair of the Advisory Board for the Dalhousie University MBA program.

Islay has a Bachelor of Commerce from University of Guelph, an MBA from McGill University, and a Master of Information Studies from University of Toronto. She also recently qualified for the Institute of Corporate Directors, Director designation (ICD.D).

She is married and lives in Toronto.

Janice Holzscherer

Managing Director & Head, Agricultural Banking

Janice is the Managing Director & Head of Agricultural Banking in Canadian Commercial Banking, responsible for the positioning, growth, and management of the National Agriculture team across Canada since August 2016.

Since joining Scotiabank in 2007, Janice has held increasingly senior roles within the Canadian Bank across Ontario. Prior to Scotiabank, she held senior positions in the investment industry.

Janice holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and a Bachelor of Economics and History (Honours) from Trinity College at the University of Toronto. Outside of work, Janice is passionate about horses and U.S. politics. She and her husband reside on a farm in Southwestern Ontario, where she helps her daughter manage a horse breeding operation. Her two sons are recent university graduates who currently live and work in Texas and B.C.

Frank Ottavino

Senior Vice President & Head, Real Estate Banking and National Accounts

Frank Ottavino is the Senior Vice President & Head of Real Estate Banking and National Accounts in Canadian Commercial Banking. In his role, he is responsible for leading the strategic direction and operations of the Real Estate Banking and National Accounts teams in Canada.

Since joining Scotiabank in 1998, Frank has held increasingly senior roles across Retail, Commercial, and Corporate Banking in both Canada and the U.S. He leads a dynamic, high-performing team of seasoned professionals dedicated to delivering innovative banking solutions to our real estate and corporate clients within Canadian Commercial Banking.

Outside of work, Frank is committed to giving back to his community. He also enjoys travelling with his wife and two daughters, exploring new destinations, and embracing diverse cultures.

Ravina Bains

Senior Vice President & National Head, Mid-Market

Ravina Bains is a Senior Vice President & National Head in Canadian Commercial Banking, responsible for leading the national Mid-Market Distribution team in Canada. She also serves as a Wealth Advisory Board Member for The Scotiabank Women Initiative (SWI).

Since joining Scotiabank in 2016, Ravina has held increasingly senior roles within Canadian Banking and Scotia Wealth Management.

Outside of work, Ravina is actively involved in her community and serves as a Board member for the YMCA of Greater Toronto, and as a Vice Chair for TVO. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Master of Arts (M.A). from the University of British Columbia, and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Law from the University of Oxford.

Damian Jones

Vice President, Payments & Cash Management

Damian Jones is the Vice President of Payments & Cash Management in Canadian Commercial Banking. In this role, he oversees a national sales team dedicated to supporting the cash management and deposit needs of commercial clients across Canada.

Since joining Scotiabank in 2006, Damian has held increasingly senior roles in International and Canadian Commercial Banking, as well as in Global Risk Management. His extensive experience spans across corporate and commercial lending, cash management, capital markets, and credit and operational risk management.

Outside of work, Damian is active in the community, serving as a Board Member for Rafa House and a member of The Rotary Club. He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of the West Indies and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Andrews University.
