2012 - Colfondos AFP ā€“ Scotiabank acquires 51% of Colfondos AFP, Colombiaā€™s 4th largest pension fund company.

In December 2019 the Bank sells its interest to an affiliate of AFP Habitat.

2013 - AFP Horizonte - Scotiabank acquires 50% of AFP Horizonte, Peruā€™s 3rd largest pension fund manager.

It is integrated with the Bankā€™s existing pension fund management business in Peru, Profuturo AFP.

2013 - Smartphone Deposits - ING Direct introduces Cheque-Inā„¢ , functionality which allows clients to deposit cheques quickly and securely using their smartphones.

ING Direct, soon to rebrand as Tangerine, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Scotiabank.

2014 - Canadian Tire - Scotiabank and Canadian Tire enter a strategic business partnership that includes Scotiabank acquiring 20% of Canadian Tire's Financial Services Business.

Canadian Tire's financial services division is the eighth largest credit card issuer in Canada.

2014 - World's Best Multinational Workplaces - Scotiabank becomes the first Canadian-based company to be named to the "World's Best Multinational Workplaces" list.

The list recognizes leading workplaces chosen from 45 countries around the world.

2015 - Cencosud - Scotiabank acquires 51% of Cencosud's financial services business in a 15-year strategic alliance. The partnership includes the management of Cencosud's credit card portfolio.

This acquisition makes Scotiabank the third largest credit card provider in Chile.

2015 - Citibank in Peru - Scotiabank Peru acquires the retail and commercial banking operations of Citibank in Peru.

Citibank's Peruvian operation includes eight branches which serve more than 130,000 retail and commercial banking customers.

2015 - Discount Bank

Scotiabank acquires Discount Bankā€™s operations in Uruguay.

2015 - Choice in Credit Cards - Scotiabank acquires JPMorganā€™s Canadian credit card business.

As a result of this acquisition, Scotiabank is the first bank in Canada to offer customers all three major credit card brands: VISA, AMEX and MasterCard

2016 - Citibank - Scotiabank acquires Citigroup's retail and commercial banking businesses in Panama and Costa Rica. This triples Scotiabank's customer base in these countries.

To comply with local legislation, during integration the businesses acquired remain separate and operate under the name Scotiabank TransformƔndose.

2017 - Digital Factories - Scotiabank opens five Digital Factories. These innovation hubs house design, digital product, and engineering experts working to reinvent the digital customer experience.

They are located in Toronto, Bogota, Mexico City, Lima and Santiago.

2017 - Intelligent-Deposit ABMs - Scotiabank pilots Intelligent Deposit Machines in the Guelph region.

These new ABMs do not use envelopes for deposit, reducing waste and making the process more accessible for those with reduced manual dexterity.
