Stephen Bagnarol was appointed Executive Vice President of International Commercial Banking on May 1, 2024. In this role, Stephen will define and implement strategies to expand the Commercial Banking business across the international footprint. 

Previously, as the EVP of Canadian Business Banking, he was responsible for setting the strategy for the Canadian Business Bank, focusing on key growth opportunities, and enhancing client relationships.

Stephen joined Scotiabank in 1998 as part of the International Associate Development Program, working in both Commercial Banking and Global Risk Management. Upon graduation from the program, he accepted his first international assignment in Mexico, where he held progressively senior roles in Corporate Banking, including Head of Real Estate Banking. In 2005, Stephen relocated to New York, USA as Managing Director, Derivatives, Capital Markets. He was appointed Vice President & Country Head in Panama in 2008, Senior Vice President, Wholesale Banking in Peru in 2011, Senior Vice President & Head of Caribbean South & East in 2017 and in 2021, EVP, Canadian Business Banking. 

Stephen holds a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from the Schulich School of Business in Toronto and is a CFA Charterholder.
