Effective August 1, 2023, we’re making changes to annual interest rates and how many Scene+ points you earn on your account. Here are the details:

Annual Interest Rates:

The preferred annual interest rate on purchases is changing from 19.99% to 20.99%.
The standard rate on purchases is changing from 24.99% to 25.99%. [Note: the standard rate only applies if there are 2 minimum payments not received by the payment due date in any consecutive 12-month period]

Scene+ Points Earn Rates:

You’ll now earn 2 Scene+ points¹ for every eligible $1.00 purchase made at all Home Hardware, Home Building Centre, Home Hardware Building Centre, Home Furniture locations in Canada and online at homehardware.ca charged and posted to the Scotiabank Scene+ Visa Account.

You’ll still also continue to earn the following points¹:

The preferred annual interest rates on purchases is changing from 19.99% to 20.99%.

Note: The preferred annual interest rates on purchases of 20.99% will be applied the first day after your August 2023 statement date. So, if your statement date is August 15^th, 2023, the new interest rate will apply to your account as of August 16^th, 2023.

TIP: To avoid paying interest on new purchases you make each month, pay your entire balance in full by the payment due date that appears on your statement. You can set up pre-authorized payments to make sure you pay in full each month. Contact us if you need help setting that up.

The standard rate on purchases only applies if we don’t receive your minimum payment by the due date on your statement two times in any consecutive 12-month period.

Note: If your account is part of the Scotia Total Equity® Plan (STEP), these higher standard rates don’t apply to your account.

If the standard rate on purchases applies at the time the change takes effect, the new standard rate on purchases of 25.99% will be applied the first day after your August 2023 statement date. For example, if your statement date is August 15, 2023, the new standard rate will apply to your account starting August 16, 2023.

TIP: To avoid paying Interest at the standard rate on purchases, pay your minimum payment or more by your payment due date. If you miss two minimum payments within 12 months, you’ll be charged interest at the standard rate. Get in touch with us if you need help setting up pre-authorized payments to make sure you pay a at least your minimum payment every month.

No, there is no change to the preferred annual interest rates on cash advances or the standard rate on cash advances. The annual interest rate on cash advances is currently 22.99%. The standard rate on cash advances is currently 27.99%.

The primary cardholder annual fee is changing from $139 to $150. The additional cardholder annual fee remains $0 for one additional card and $50 for each additional card.

There is an annual cap on Scene+ points earned at the accelerated earn rates. Starting October 1, 2022, you’ll earn 3X Scene+ points for every dollar spent at the participating grocery stores and 2X Scene+ points per dollar spent on all other eligible grocery, dining, entertainment, and daily transit purchases.

This 3X and 2X the points are what we call an accelerated earn rate and it applies to the first $50,000 in purchases^1,2 charged annually on your account, at merchants qualifying for the accelerated earn rate. This is calculated from January 1 to December 31 each year. Once you go over $50,000 in purchases, you’ll earn points at the regular earn rate of 1X Scene+ point per dollar spent.

If you make a purchase on your Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite account on or before September 30, 2022 (based on the transaction date that appears on your statement), you’ll earn 2X Scene+ points for every dollar spent on all eligible purchases at Sobeys, IGA, Safeway, Foodland, FreshCo, Voilà by Sobeys, Voilà by IGA, Voilà by Safeway, Chalo !
